Environmental Sustainability
The Concord Public Schools and Concord-Carlisle Regional School District are committed to sustainability and share the Town of Concord’s sustainability goals.
- Current Efforts
Composting
Thoreau started composting last year. We are working on quantifying the reduction in trash. Results to date:
CCHS Composting Kickoff! A Composting Crew of 50 CCHS students coach their peers daily so composting happens smoothly!
CMS, Willard and Alcott are making plans to get started!
Electric School Buses
We were notified in late December that our grant application for a second electric school bus was accepted! On January 21, 2020, we will present an overview of where we are with the fleet and offer recommendations to continue to expand the number of electric buses.
CCHS Warrant Article – Parking Lot
The Regional School Committee voted to continue the discussion about adding 104 parking spaces to the CCHS campus via a warrant article in both communities. So far, we surveyed the seniors about their transportation choices. We will survey the juniors in February as to how they come and go from school and why. Then we’ll compile this more thoroughly.
Results of Senior Survey:
Reasons For Driving to School
- Before and After School Activities – by far the most often mentioned
- Additional Sleep
- Waiting for Late Bus is Too Long or Too Far From My House
- No Bus Provided to Me
- Helps With Stress Since I Can Drive Myself
- Saves Time Rather Than Bus Ride
- Bring Siblings
- Convenience
