Competency Determination
On Wednesday, December 17, the Concord-Carlisle Regional School Committee approved an updated Competency Determination (CD) policy, as required by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and outlined in state regulation 603 CMR 30.00.
Competency Determination refers to the state’s updated high school graduation requirements, which replace the use of MCAS passing scores. Instead, graduation eligibility is based on successful completion of required coursework in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science/Technology & Engineering for the Class of 2026. Beginning with the Class of 2027, a U.S. History coursework requirement will also be included.
The approved policy can be found here:

DESE has indicated that these Competency Determination requirements are temporary while a statewide council develops permanent graduation standards.
Given Concord-Carlisle High School’s rigorous academic expectations and existing local graduation requirements, this policy change is expected to have little to no impact on current or future CCHS students and families.
Please feel free to reach out to CCHS administrators or Shelly Chin, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning with any questions.
