Elementary School Program Overview

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

K5 Learning Centers

Students with mild to moderate disabilities receive explicit and direct instruction in reading, writing, math, executive functioning, self-regulation, etc.  Licensed special education teachers provide direct services both in and out of the general education classroom.  Tutors and/or assistants provide supplemental support.

Related Services

Speech and language services, pragmatic language support, social skills, counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, vision services, behavioral services, educational audiology, assistive technology, transportation, etc. are available to eligible students in any Learning Center, as needed. 

Staffing

Each elementary school is staffed with 3-5 special education teachers attached to specific grade levels who provide learning center services.  Additionally, there are tutors and assistants to provide in-class and other support to students.

   
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Branch - Alcott

Branch provides therapeutic programming for students who present with a variety of mental health challenges including significant anxiety, depression, school avoidance, mood disorders and social skill challenges.  The program provides students with a therapeutic milieu in a safe and supportive environment.  Two classes are available – one for students in grades K-2 and one for students in grades 3-5.

Related Services

There is a significant amount of individual and group counseling associated with this program.  Speech and language services, pragmatic language support, social skills, occupational therapy, physical therapy, vision services, educational audiology, behavioral services, assistive technology, transportation, etc. are available to eligible students in the Branch Program, as needed.

Staffing

Each Branch class is staffed by a lead special education teacher and supported by a program counselor, BCBA, and tutors/assistants.

   
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Bridge - Thoreau

Students with Autism Spectrum Disorders and other neurological and communication disabilities are supported primarily in an inclusive setting using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.  Students are supported in the general education classroom and also receive direct and explicit instruction in the areas of pragmatic language, social skills, self-regulation and academics.

Related Services

Speech and language services, pragmatic language support, social skills, counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, vision services, behavioral services, educational audiology, assistive technology, transportation, etc. are available to eligible students in the Bridge Program, as needed.

Each class is staffed by a lead special education teacher and supported by a BCBA and ABA tutors/assistants

   
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Intensive Learning Program - Thoreau

Students with complex profiles including significant Autism, cognitive, neurological,  and/or communication disabilities are taught in this sub-separate program using the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis.  Inclusion opportunities are provided as appropriate.

Related Services

There is a significant amount of speech and language services as well as occupational therapy provided within this program.  Additional services in the areas of pragmatic language support, social skills, counseling, physical therapy, vision services, behavioral services, educational audiology, transportation, etc. are available to eligible students in the ILP Program, as needed.  Assistive technology is utilized frequently in ILP to promote language and communication.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Literacy and Beyond – LAB at Willard

Students with significant language-based disabilities, including dyslexia, are supported through this program.  Students receive explicit and direct reading and writing instruction and executive functioning support content areas may require modifications to allow successful access to the curriculum.   A licensed special education teacher is the lead for the program.   The district collaborates with Landmark Outreach to provide support and ongoing professional development for all working within this program.

Speech and language services, pragmatic language support, social skills, counseling, occupational therapy, physical therapy, vision services, behavioral services, educational audiology, assistive technology, transportation, etc. are available to eligible students in the LAB Program, as needed. 

Staffing

The program is staffed by a lead special education teacher and tutors.  General education teachers or “partner teachers”,  are connected to the program to provide skilled instruction during inclusionary opportunities.
